Delightful arachnids with red stripes on their backs

We had quite a Red Back infestation in our garage and compost bin for a while there. This big mama was living on the underside of the lid of the compost bin. We captured an egg sack and put it in a container so the kids could see what happened. … Well, nothing happened for about a month but then whoompa! there were hundreds of babies. Jo and the kids took them to the South Australian Museum where they happily took them off our hands. They made noises about rearing them up to adults so they could then make anti-venom from them.

The Museum fellow also recommended against using insecticide to get rid of our infestation, instead suggesting we get as many Daddy Long Legs spiders as we can and put them in our garage. This seems to have done the trick, along with expeditious search and splat missions.
